FAQ

What is the Azai Balance Bike?

Azai Balance Bike is a two-wheeled, No-pedal bike that teaches kids as young as 2 years to balance and steer on two wheels. With the skills learned from a balance bike, children can transition to a regular pedal bike without the assistance of training wheels. Balance bikes ride just like regular bikes and are sometimes referred to as push bikes, kick bikes, run bikes or pedal-less bikes.

Azai Bikes balance bikes are an ideal first bike for toddlers and young children 2 – 5 years with a minimum height of 75 cm and up to 125 cm.

From what age can my child ride the Azai Balance Bike?

Ideally, a child should start riding the Azai Balance Bike at the age of two (once they are walking already). Children starting to ride balance bikes later, from the age of 4, take longer to learn and tend to have a problem with keeping their balance. This is often the case because they have developed bad habits from bicycles with training wheels or from tricycles.

My child is just 2 years old, can they really ride the Azai Balance Bike?

If your child can walk, they can learn to ride the Azai Balance Bike!! Our patented designs offer the perfect combination of low seat height, low center-of-gravity, and lightweight, allowing even the youngest children to find success.

How do children start to ride the Azai Balance Bike?

Teaching a young child to ride a balance bike is as simple as getting them comfortable on the saddle, with both feet securely on the floor and ask them to start walking. After a short while, they will gain confidence and increase their speed and time while gliding (lifting their feet off the ground). As an adult, we take for granted our skills at balancing, but we forget, we learned it the long, hard way! So never push a child to learn faster. This is a skill which has to be developed by the child, so let them proceed at their own pace.

How long will it take my child to learn balance using the Azai balance bike?

It really depends on what age your child begins to use an Azai Balance Bike, and what their level of coordination/mobility is when they begin. Being able to ride a balance bike well means the child has already learned the basic skills of balancing and steering. So learning to ride a balance bike does not happen immediately. We have experienced kids as young as 2 years taking from 15 days to 4 months to get comfortable with a balance bike. We have even seen a Balance Bike staying in a home for a few months before the child finally agrees to even sit on it. But once they start riding it, they are usually proficient very soon. Of course, every child will have a different pace of learning. As a parent don’t push your child. Let them develop at their pace. Be supportive and soon you will see your child ride confidently.

Is it easier for kids to learn a tricycle or bikes with training wheels?

Experts world-over now acknowledge the benefit of balance-bikes versus trainer wheels or tricycles, as trainer wheels or tricycles delay the development of a child’s ability to balance, which is an essential and important gross motor skill.

Balance bikes require a little more effort to learn because the skill of balancing is difficult. But once mastered, toddlers love the independence and sense of accomplishment they get from riding a balance bike and rarely touch a tricycle or training wheels again.  Instead, they will be bugging you to take them out for a ride!

Does the weight of a Balance Bike matter?

Great Question! The weight of a balance bike is among the most important criteria in choosing a balance bike for your child. The lighter a balance bike, the easier and faster it is for a child to master the skills of balance and steering. And as a parent, it’s easy for you to carry on long rides when your child gets tired.

Where are the pedals? And the brakes?

For a young child, pedals and brakes just add to the complexity. At this stage, Simple is Best! That’s why we have designed a truly No-hassle bike.

Azai Balance bikes are a super fun way to teach young children the fundamentals of balance and steering without the added complication of pedals and training wheels. Children put their feet on the ground and push. Stopping is just as easy as starting; they just put their feet down.

What is the weight of Azai Bikes? And what is the minimum height for the child to be able to ride?

Azai Discover (AZ33) weighs just 2.6 kgs and Azai Firefly (AZ77) weighs only 1.9 kgs.

A child should be at least 75 cms and up to 125 cm tall to be able to ride the Azai Balance Bike comfortably.

Do we need to fill air in the tires?

The tires in Azai Balance Bike are made of an EVA polymer which offers 2 key benefits:

How high should the seat be?

Proper seat height should have the child sitting on the saddle, with feet flat on the ground, with a slight bend in the knees. Resist the temptation of keeping the seat so high that only the child’s toes touch the ground. Feet securely on the ground with a slight bend on the knees is very important for safe rides.

How high should the handlebars be?

Handlebar height should be at the lowest setting for 2-year-olds, mid-height for 3-4 years old and at the highest setting for 4 years+ old. Typically, you want the handlebars to be about mid-torso.

Do we have to assemble the bikes ourselves?

Your Azai Bike arrives 90% assembled with the 2 wheels attached to the frame. All you have to do is to assemble the handlebar and the saddle to the bike with the tool and instruction kit provided.

Will the bike require maintenance or servicing?

Azai Bikes need very little maintenance. Just keep them clean and dry and they should be fine. An important activity you have to perform regularly is to adjust the saddle and the handlebar height. Your child is growing much faster than you can imagine, so continually adjusting the height keeps the bike suited to your child.
